    can't post reply

Sunday 11:20 AM. For the last hour I have been able to post to the forum. I can read. I can compose but when I try to preview or post I get an Internal Server Error, with an additional 404 . This did not happen when I tried a test post using "test 123" as the message but when I tried to post a longer reply to another post I got the error.

This seems to happen only in the one sub-forum and the thread Tradtion: lets (re)define itHave I been proscribed...without being told or told the reason?.

    ^ Nevermind.

figured it out through trial and error--it was a text string surrounded by single quotes.

I have no idea why single quotes would cause the server to hang but when I entered and previewed my post one sentence at a time it would give me the error message every time until I took the single quotes out (left the sentence).

    Once I removed them...voila! I was golden.

"Have I been proscribed...without being told or told the reason?."

Why would you even suspect this? Do you know of, or have you ever heard of, any case where a member was "proscribed" without due cause or due process since I took over?

I want to say that I am a bit insulted that your first, automatic, thought was that the staff had acted in some way outside our policies and procedures but I won't.

Perhaps you believe that the members of the staff would actually act in such an arbitrary and vindictive manner.

Or perhaps you feel that you have done something which would warrant such action.

Whatever the reason I can assure you that if any action is taken you will know about it and you will know the reason.

I think you're making too much of this.

I know a little something about computers and I am an Admin for a forum and webmaster myself.

I could not, and still cannot, figure out why I could not post. Why would enclosing a text string in single quotes make the server pop an error message? Enclosing a text string in single quotes is a common enough device in the English language.

Was the Forum software written for some other language? I suspect, bordering on knowing, that it was not .

I could read the forum, I could post a short test message. Other people were posting to the thread I wanted to post to.

    What other reasons are left?

I was frustrated over spending an hour plus trying to figure out a problem that doesn't have an rational reason to exist.

    Don't over think this.
