Reviews Celtic Fling, Albannoch and USA Kilts
Busy weekend. Michele and I went to Celtic Fling in Manheim, PA. Great fun, very well run event - the various performances even started on time! I saw a lot of different kilts, but the topper was the Hawaiian shirt pattern kilt, which the wearer said was "McGarrett" tartan.
Albannoch - Their music was great, but I think Jamesie provides a certain showermanship that was lacking. Let's all put in a good thought with Whoever is in charge for his speedy and complete recovery.
Rocky delivered my new 5 yard wool Albannoch kilt at the Fling. I tried it on last night. As I expected, the fit and hang are PERFECT! The mill did a great job of matching the the wool dyes to the PV coloring. My daughter is getting married on the 3rd of July. I am planning to wear this kilt to the rehearsal dinner on Friday, I'll have pictures from that.

... unless the pattern is birds, orchids, or lilies; in which case it's the MacMagnum.

I saw the McGarrett" kilt as well. It was actually fairly sedate - black background with red flowers. If I was going with a Hawaiian kilt it would be much harder on the eyes.
It is always great to go to an event where a large percentage of the men are kilted - you don't hear many comments about "skirts" when you have guys built like linebackers wearing tartans.
I was really surprise with Cutthroat Shamrock. never heard of them before but they put on a good show. The advertise themselves as "Appalachian Celtic Punk."
I agree with you about Albannach - they did not seem to have their usual energy without Jamesie. Did you notice that security hustled everyone out of there at the end of the night? I guess the days of hanging around with bands after shows is coming to an end.
All in all a great weekend!

Maybe it was the people in charge of the venue. Two weeks ago at a Celtic festival in Black Mountain, NC, the band members, Albannach included, mingled freely with the audience.
