Pleat Inserts?
On a contemporary, edge-stitched* kilt, how do the pleat inserts work? Does this make the construction of the kilt significantly more complicated?
As context, in another thread, we were discussing a kilt that would have different, solid-colored pleats, as opposed to a tartan kilt pleated to the sett. In other words, a gray pleat, a white pleat, a red pleat , and a green pleat, all solid colors, then the colors repeat, or something along that line.
* Edge-stitched, meaning both the front and back edge of the pleat are stitched to hold the edge.
Thanks.

Sounds a bit like you are describing the "Team Kilt", from SportKilt.

I have a Buchanan tartan version on order, expected to arrive tomorrow (Friday).

Re: Pleat Inserts?
I will assume you're making box pleats. I can't imagine the pleat inserts making it significantly more difficult to make the kilt. The X-Kilt instructions by Alan Hebert shows the plaid inserts simply being overlaid on the denim kilt's pleats. Unfortunately, the book was without instructions on how to attach the inserts. Probably with that iron-on stuff?

Re: Pleat Inserts?
It's been done both ways, either a single layer of fabric that alternates from one color to another (with seams at each join), or laying the second color of fabric on top of the first. I believe most folks who go with 2 layers are stitching the layers together, not using any fusible product.

Re: Pleat Inserts?
Ya, I remember people not having a good time with trying to use fusible stuff to thicken their Walmart fabric and so on.
