Buchanalmost tartan?
I found this fabric today in a local thrift store. It is 10 oz wool or so it seems to my hand. It looks a lot like the Buchanan tartan, but it's missing the white. Is this an actual tartan with which anyone is familiar or is it a fashion tartan that draws a good deal of inspiration from the Buchanan?
Any ideas?

Isn't it missing the broad red vertical stripe?

It would seem so. Here's more of it.

Agreed. The red stripe has different thread counts, between warp and weft. They are the same in a normal Buchanan.

My guess is it's not a registered tartan. The material is probably intended more for making plaid shirts or boxer shorts and not intended to be a tartan. Just a guess though!

Given that the warp and weft don't match, you're probably correct about it not being a registered pattern. That said, it wouldn't expect it to be boxer shorts or a plaid shirt. It has the feel of a ladies tartan sash or hostess skirt.

It's miswoven Old MacMillan tartan. If you'd be willing, I'd be interested in purchasing it. Can you PM?

Agreed, a weaving error for Old MacMillan.

I agree with Fighearair on the weaving error. It's MacMillon Old, but the warp (long ways) and the weft (short width across) are different for the maroon sections. Notice the Maroon section is wider horizontally and skinny vertically.
