Sporran tassels
In short, I should take better care of my sporran. This is something I plan on starting to do. This is the only sporran I have (until Monday when my semi-dress comes) and I love it. However, as you can see pictured, the left and right tassels are a little all over the place.

What is the best way to restore my sporran's tassels to their former glory. Also, how do you normally store your sporrans? In a drawer? In a box?
Thanks for any help.

To keep my tassels tidy, I wrap a strip of paper around each and then wrap a small rubber band around each a few times.

Like a hand tied bow-tie, I think the tassels should be slightly skew-wiff.

In my twenties I put nearly 120,000 miles on a Gold Wing motorcycle, in a span of 3 years. My friends put barely 2,000 - 6,000 miles on theirs, in the same time. At the end of the 3 years (when I traded it for another bike), theirs still had a showroom spit & polish look, and had only had the oil changed once or twice. Though I never abused the finish of my bike, I never obsessed over it, either. I enjoyed my motorcycle year 'round, touring all over, while theirs sat in their heated garage, unused.
I wouldn't worry about the tassels. They look fine.

I've got a number of hooks on the wall in the back of my closet. I run a zip tie through the slot in back and hang them up. The ties are just stiff enough I have no problem hanging them up high where they are out of the way and just clip the tie when I need one. The ties are cheap enough to be disposable.

I'm with Ken on this one, except for the motorcycle part. I think your tassels look fine. I like them a bit rugged looking.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Absolutely right! In the UK in some civilian circles, it is regarded as "almost bad form" to have things looking new and just so. Best leave the ultra smart look and minute dress details to the Brigade of Guards!

I see nothing wrong with the tassles... I would not concern with such a fine detail.

There is nothing wrong with the way it looks; pristine is not a casual look and that is a casual day sporran. If you are obsessed with straightening out the tassles, tie them together with an elastic band and soak them in water and let them air dry. Beware, however, you may have to soak the whole sporran to retain colour fidelity. If you do dry it flat, face up. I hasten to add I have never done that to tassles, although I have used the soaking method to alter other leather items.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
