    Ebay Jackets

Has anyone any positive feedback on any jacket purchases from any Ebay vendors? It is all very well buying jackets from main suppliers with their associated margins but there are manufacturers out there who can sell products at cost. I buy handmade kilts from a local lady here in Scotland for £140 (that is inclusive of the tartan price). Perhaps somebody out there knows someone who makes jackets and sells them direct?

There in Scotland there are a large number of ex-hire jackets available especially at this time of year.

Up until fairly recently all the hire shops hired quality UK-made jackets so going the ex-hire route was the most economical way to get a quality jacket. My black Argyll and Prince Charlie are high quality Scottish-made jackets bought on Ebay from Scottish kilt hire shops.

Trouble is, nowadays many hire shops are hiring Pakistani jackets. It's obvious when you see the hire prices, who is hiring UK made things and who is hiring Pakistani made things.

If I were living in Scotland I'd make the rounds of the hire shops this time of year, so that I can see and feel and try on the jackets. (The hire shops jettison their old stock, usually around now, in preparation for the Spring wedding season.)

Being here in the USA it's far more difficult, because only a small percentage of the Scottish hire shops sell their things online. Add to that the fact that we can't examine the jackets in person.

You're lucky being where you are!

    Cheers

Thanks for the useful response. Tell me is there a discernible difference between the Pakistani and UK craftsmanship? Would you advise going door to door to find ex-hire stuff then?
