Question on a company?
I was wondering if any of my fellow Xmarkers, have had dealings with McCalls Ltd. They appear to be a for hire shop with a few locations in Scotland. I'm looking a possibly buying an ex hire jacket from them. Any information on the types and quality of the product they sale would be great.

The owner of McCalls is a very nice guy. I've had a couple discussions with him in the past and was always very impressed by their operation. They have 5 or 6 stores across the UK and are the designers of the "Pride of Scotland" tartan which is often copied in Pakistan.
They make their jackets in house and while I've never seen one in person, if it's as nice as their kilts, I'd say you'll likely be pleased.

I visited McCalls and MacGregor & MacDuff when in Glasgow.
Both shops had high-quality Scottish-made jackets, sporrans, hose, etc.
For whatever reason I saw no Pakistani tat in Glasgow, a nice change from The Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
BTW a kilt jacket & waistcoat set I saw in MacGregor & MacDuff was one of the loveliest I've ever seen- Lovat Green with a claret overcheck. As I recall it was upwards of 500 pounds so needless to say I couldn't buy it. (But I did put it on )
About McCalls "Pride" tartans, they have a load of them, granite pride, autumn pride, ancient pride, modern pride, hunting pride...

I've had two kilts made by them (they used to do a £250 offer on 8 yard kilts). They are beautiful and McCalls moved the buckles on them gratis when I lost a lot of weight.
They clearly market more to people looking for more upmarket, modern, fashionable kilt outfits for weddings and events and their stuff is often very stylish and they cater for people both with lots of taste and without any.
A company I would recommend.

That's helpful for me, too. I've been shopping around and I really like some of the items on their site. It's pricy but it looks good quality. Thank you.
