Second Day Sporran in a series
This is a new Day sporran I've just completed. I used a woven belt I bought at the Salvation Army Store for the braid, attaching it to the front of the bag I made from scratch out of some scrap leather. The fur detail is recycled seal from a coat.
The leather was very soft and plyable, so I build it up in three layers for the back and two layers for the gusset. The front I left with just one layer as the braidwork is quite stiff and gives it the support it needs. All the seams are hand sewn and then covered with a leather trim piece that is glued into place to hide the sometimes shoddy stitch work. The bag is very flexable and opens to a full 3" in depth. When empty, it will come down to a 1" thickness. I added the bone button to match it up with my last Day Sporran. See photos attached.

I can not take credit for the braidwork as that was the way it came on the belt I bought for $3. I simply wet it down to reshaped it in order to fit the sporran and trimmed it, then gluded and sewed it into place. The rest of the bag I made to accomodate this detail. You might say the originak woven belt inspired both of these sporrans. For sure it is the most interesting element of each of them.
I'm very happy it appeals to you. Thanks for your comments.

great looking sporran
Too bad you didn't make the braid. I just figured out the mystery braid and would have loved to know how you did these.

If you look at the end of the braid on the bottom sporran, it looks like 14 strands that form the pattern with the accent (three ribbon strands) woven as one through the overall design from both sides in symetrical fashion.
It is a striking design to be sure.
