only in NYC....
Just got in from a kilt night with my fellow kilters from Men In Kilts - New York ...
on the way home, after hanging with that crew until far too late & doing an obligatory visit to my favorite piano bar, got onto the subway to make my way back hime.
Am quietly seated on the train, face buried in a crappy book but what do I see out of the corner of my eye but a bright green tartan going by... I look up and there, 3 seats away from me, is a guy in full formal regalia: Kilt, Prince Charlie, vest , bow tie - the full lot!... The biggest of big grins breaks out across my face and he looks at me slightly confused and then I stand to show that I am also kilted for the evening. Conversation ensues in which he shares that he is here from Scotland, been here a few months - lives the next town over from me, had just come from a Burns Dinner (with over 200 guest but less than 10 were kilted!!!) and was wearing his grandfathers gear (the kilt was the only thing left to him in dear old granddad's will) I gave him the story of my kilt group & our adventures in kiltdom and he seemed very interested in joining in. We exchanged cards and will hopefully get him out & about in his kilt (he has only one)
And here is the photo to back all that up!!!

There was a couple who got on the train after us & found the whoel thing too damned funny & the guy insisted his girlfriend take a pic with us as well - i dont have a copy of that one - sorry ...
I also had another random kilt encounter tonight with a guy in a leather kilt as i was making my way to the train station - we stopped & chjatted for a bit & he said he woudl definately be in touch to join in with my group... Didnt have the where withall to get his pic tho :-(
Sometimes you just have to love NYC!!!

Very cool! I have yet to see anyone else in a kilt while I'm out and about.
Also, nice to put a face with another X-Marks member!
Thanks for sharing. Great, classy pic!

You know man, I really love this forum.
You read what people say here, and you develop an image in your mind of what they look like. And then you see a picture of them. It’s cool.
Let me try and explain what I’m saying with a small story:
This happened about 6 or 7 years ago. My office mate at work was a Black man about 60 years old. Well, one day we were talking about Kilts and tartans and stuff, and he tells me that he is a descendant of Rob Roy MacGreger. “That’s cool” I thought. I would never have guessed.
It just goes to show, the more different we all are, the more we’re all the same.
Great photo, Mr. Onion.

I was walking home from work one night, where I wear a khaki Utilikilt. Just ahead of me a guy came out of a restaurant wearing a black UK. He saw me and said, "Holy s**t!" We shook hands and passed on. So I know that someone else who lives in this four-block radius wears a kilt.

Wonderful story & pic. It probably was a great encounter for him, as well.

UaO, great story and great pic. And I have to say that I love your scarf, the royal piping and fringe is very nice, especially with the dark gray shirt and black UK. Gives a nice discrete touch of color to the ensemble.
And I am going to guess the mango part comes from growing up in Bermuda? Not going to speculate on the naked part!

ADDENDUM: the other guy in the pic has recently joined X-marks and is now succumbing to its seductive lure....
He is considering wearing his kilt skiing this weekend at a local hill... I am trying to talk him out of doing that to his dear old granddads kilts and invest in something a little less sentimentally associated... I know they were built tough back then but....

Glad to hear that, he definetly will find a way to feed the addiction!
