How do you kilt yourself?
This is just an informal list, inspired by an interesting article over at Matt Newsome's blog. Personally, I differ greatly from Matt but like most, there's a method to my madness when I 'kilt myself', i.e. the order in which I put on my clothes, etc. Maybe I can learn a thing or two here as well.
I'm not suggesting anyone follow my example below (by any means); I'm just curious as to how others do the same. No need to be overly specific as to what you wear (as I have), but the order in which you put things on would be a nice thing to share with everyone. But, please: Let's be kind to one another and share our thoughts on 'how we do it', and not argue the 'whys' or 'whatfors'.
Here we go:
1. Underwear: Always. I'm not that macho to go without nor do I find it particularly appealing (or hygienic) to do otherwise. Try to 'kilt check' me and you may pull back a stump (unless you're my fiance...no need to say more).
2. Hose pt. I: For casual wear, hand-knitted woollen hose (only) pushed down but I pull them all the way up until completing step #5. If I'm going formal, I wear coordinating hose and add flashes at this step.
3. Footwear: Boots for casual wear (usually brown) and black wingtips or oxford (lace-up) shoes for formal occasions.
4. Kilt: Whichever I feel like wearing.
5. Shirt: Usually a color-coordinated t-shirt (long or short sleeve), turtleneck or sweater for casual wear (depending on the temperature); a long sleeve Oxford (button-down) shirt for a 'dressier' look (with or without tie, depending on the event).
6. Hose pt. II: If I'm going casual, then I push my hose down to an even level on each leg.
7. Belt: Always. I have serious back problems (why you always see me with a cane in the pics I post) and I occasionally wear a formed plastic lumbar brace. A belt gives me more back suport and helps keep the brace in place (also why I prefer/need three belt loops on my kilts).
8. Sporran: Almost always a brown (or black) 'Rob Roy' sporran for casual wear, or one of my other black dress sporrans for a formal look.
9. Kilt pin: Never, with the exception of my upcoming wedding.
10. Skian dubh: Never (no need or desire to wear one).
Well, that's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it. So, how do you kilt yourself?

1. Hose pt. I: I usually start with the hose and flashes.
2. Hose pt. II: If I'm going casual, then I push my hose down and skip the flashes
3. Footwear: Black oxfords for formal or brown for more casual if hose up, and boots for casual (black or brown). Footwear always matches the other leathers.
4. Shirt: dress shirt, golf shirt, t-shirt, whatever I am wearing depending on the formaility.
5. Kilt: I'd look a little odd with the hose and shirt and no kilt in the middle
6. Belt: if I am not wearing a waistcoat
7. Waistcoat:if the occasion calls for it.
8. Sporran: brown casual, black leather day sporran, or seal skin dress sporran depending on the occasion
9. Jacket:if the occasion calls for it.
10. Misc:keys, phone, money and flask into the sporran
Kilt pin: already on the kilt so no need to add it to my list.

Cool post MacSimon
I have fun choosing what to wear for the day. Much more than when I get dressed wearing pants.
My list is a lil' simpler:
1. Hose: If I'm wearing hose +/- flashes, they are first.
2. Shoes: are next...boots are last (no boots in the house)
3. Shirt: I try to match my hose.
4. Kilt: currently only one tartan (blackwatch) or 2 UKs
5. Belt: I always wear one
6. Sporran: if wearing my BW. I typicailly don't wear it around the house.
7. Boots: if I'm wearing them. The boots/sporran can easily reverse order.
7a. Keens: In summertime, I wear my Keens with my UKs.
(no sporran and no hose)
Kilt pin: With only one tartan kilt, my XMarks pin is always on my kilt.
Skian dubh: It sits in my dresser. It seems for more formal events.
Cheers,

In order...
Shirt - Usually a t-shirt or polo.
Kilt/Cilt - I wear my UK's more than my Tartan(s).
Belt - I always wear a belt.
Socks/Hose - Depends on the weather and where I'm going.
Boots/Runners - Also depends on where I'm going.
Sporran - Almost always, even with my UK's, just not around the house.
Kilt/Cilt Pin - Only with Tartan.
Jacket - Depends on the weather and where I'm going.
Hat - If I feel like wearing one.
Misc -As for a knife, I don't own a Sgian dubh (yet), but I sometimes keep a pocket knife in my Sporran.
Then I look in the mirror to make sure I look as good as I feel.

Typically, it's this:
1. Underwear (if worn )
2. Hose
3. Shoes
4. Shirt
5. Kilt (since it goes over the shirt tail), kilt pin already attached
6. Belt (if no waistcoat)
7. Sporran
8. Waistcoat (if worn)
9. Jacket (if fly plaid is worn, it is already attached to jacket)
10. Headgear
