How about video? Right here on X Marks!

OK, how about having the ability to actually embed YouTube videos and Google videos into forum posts? Sound like a plan? Just be forewarned that ALL forum rules and guidelines apply to submitted videos and there will be a zero tolerance policy on inappropriate video submissions.

There is a vintage video of one of my favorite songs available on YouTube. The URL of the video is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vyx1xeZo_tk

Now you can click on that link and whisk yourself away to YouTube to watch the video, or you can just watch it in this post.

If you look at the video URL, you will see some characters following v= which is the video's ID number. That is all we are interested in, just that ID.

The secret is the use of the BB Code tags. Characters that are enclosed in square brackets [] are capable of applying some other code in the background. I cannot type the codes out, as they will try to apply themselves, so pay close attention.

OK, all of the same applies for embedding a Google Video.

There's a video of some pals of mine that you will doubtless recognize at the following URL - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6081071686307064915&q=Albannach

Again, all we're interested in is the video ID number, which is everything after docid=

[type "gv" in here without quotes]
6081071686307064915&q=Albannach[type "/gv" in here without quotes] Remember the gv code has to appear inside square brackets [].

    Enjoy!

That is a really nice feature addition. Good work Mike!

Mike, you should be warned... I know of two other forums that allowed this, forums of this software type, and they had to kill the feature. There is a means of malicious attack that can be done to Windows boxen and Internet Exploder using embedded coding.

Although I doubt anybody here would do something bad.

A bit off topic, but who is that second band? They're great. I'd love to hear more of them.

The coding is closed, nobody can do any harm with it.

    Albannach.
Flower of Scotland was very moving - but Albannach was AWSOME! Thanks for the introduction to another band.

It's so cool what you find and are exposed to at times on Xmarks.

OK, sounds easy, but i cannot get my video from photobucket to work....is there a shortcut code for this as well?

I see that Hamish successfully embedded his video...so what am I missing here?

NEVERMIND, just figured it out, photobucket makes things really easy with their embedding code right there for you to see! All you do is cut and paste the img code line and it's done for you. Yay photobucket!
