Tartan Identifaction Please
I recently got this fabric at a local fabric store chain for $1.50 a yard, even though it's a cotton twill I think it will make a great summer kilt.

I don't know, but it's a fine looking Tartan. Which store did you get it at? You might want to pm Matt Newsome.

I have a VERY strong feeling that is one of the many known as "bumbee" tartans. (They are not real tartans, but looks kinda like one.)
Most tartans do not use white like that, unless they are "dress tartans," like the common "Dress Gordon." Many "bumbees" do.
I may be wrong, as my tartan index is not the biggest (a few posters have access to the Scottish Tartan Authorities website's full index tools, I do not).

I checked this through House of Tartan's "search by colors" tartan finder and didn't find any matches. It's likely that it is a trade tartan that has not been registered. It looks very sharp, though, and the light blue stripe just begs to be pleated to. It is very traditional in the sense that the earliest tartans weren't tied to a particular name or even district and were simply attractive patterns in whatever colors the weaver had on hand.
For my $.02, I find it very freeing to be able to tell those who ask about the provenance of the tartan you're wearing that you simply liked the looks of it in the store, rather than the usual tortured explanation of how one's great-uncle by marriage, twice-removed was a Mac-whatever and this is the clan tartan, blah, blah, blah.....
Cordially,
David

I have a pair of boxers that look like that.

Are they pleated to the sett or the stripe?

Second that "begs to be pleated to the light blue stripe". If I could find that here in a heavyweight, I'd snap it up in a second! Great stuff.

I picked it up at Joann Fabrics in their clearance section. The last few weeks I've been trolling the local fabric stores to see if I could score on some awesome fabric like this and I finally got some .
