R'lyeh tartan pleating options and yardage
Maybe there's already a thread on this topic, but I think it would be interesting to see some of the various ways the R'lyeh tartan has been pleated to get an idea of some of the different looks.
This is a 6 yard kilt pleated with the green stripe on the leading edge, with the dark going into the depth of the pleat.
Photo taken before the pleats were basted and pressed. It was late at night....

There were a number of variations photographed last run- HERE but it's always interesting to see more.

No, it really is a knife pleat. Matt took the pic above with the kilt lying flat before shipping, I believe. I took this one just a minute ago from a different angle and with the kilt hanging up:

Pretty deep pleats too, almost exactly five inches apiece with the exposed portion of each being about one inch.

I'm putting the finishing touches on a five yard Kingussie style kilt in this tartan right now. Here are some photos I have taken in the past of other kilts I have made in this sett.
Here is a mock up I did for someone getting a four yard box pleat who wanted to see different ways of pleating it.
This is an "in progress" pic of either a five or six yarder (I think five) pleated to the "mystery stripe."
Same kilt, finished.
A Kingussie pleated kilt -- not the one I am working on now, but pleated the same way. In progress...
Finished....

This doesn't have anything to do with pleating styles, but sometimes people ask me for hose color recommendations, so these are some photos I took of different kilt hose with the tartan. Thought it might be helpful to post them.
These are Dark Loden colored Rannoch hose. (All hose styles are from House of Cheviot).
Ancient Green Lewis hose.
Charcoal, in Lewis and Glenmore hose styles.
Purple Tain hose. The Tain style is no longer made by House of Cheviot, but you can get this same color now in the Lewis hose, or their new Pipe Band Hose.
These are Sandringham hose in Aubergine. I thought it an interesting color with this tartan.
Sadly, you can no longer get this color in Sandringham, but you can get a new purplish color called Heather which I think would work well.
