The Philosophy and Rules of X Marks

Background
This web site began in 2004 as a place where one man could post amusing photos of how people at Highland Games dressed. These photos began a long series known as “The do’s and dont's of how to wear the Kilt.” Today X Marks is the world’s largest and most active information source about the kilt.

Mission Statement
We want this site to continue as a place where our members can enjoy the company of all other fellow kilt wearers. We also wish to provide a place where those who choose to wear the kilt can find information, guidance, advice, and share experiences with others. As we all wish to have access to the kilts and accessories offered by various manufacturers and retailers we accept a select few who are trusted and known to provide quality, value and service to present their products to our members.

Our guiding principals will always be;

“We agree to conduct ourselves as the Ladies and Gentlemen of X Marks.”
This site has always been a place where our members treat each other in a polite and respectful, open and honest manner at all times.

“We assume and expect our members to act as responsible adults”.
Adults don't need to be forced to follow rules. They have developed a sense of right and wrong. They know when a subject is appropriate or not. We expect our members to take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences for those actions.

“To keep this forum an enjoyable and informative place we rely on a 'Report a Post' driven Moderation policy”.
We have Moderators to oversee the forum but no one can be every where, all the time. This forum software contains a 'Report a Post' feature. We rely on our members to govern themselves and report any post, thread, Personal Message(PM), or email that they feel is inappropriate, unsuitable, or a possible violation of our rules to the staff for review.

By joining us on this forum you have agreed to adhere to our guiding principals and to abide by these rules and policies.

Rule #1
– Attacks from Hackers, Spammers and those using the membership resources of this forum as a pool to fish for members, or for any other purpose cannot be tolerated.

Rule #2
– Posts by ‘Trolls’, posts known as ‘Feeding the Troll', any ‘Flaming’, direct attack against another member, or inciting a Vendetta, are serious disruptions of pleasant discussion and cannot be tolerated.

Rule #3
– Pornography, nudity, sexually explicit material of any kind, or embedded links to such material, have no place on this forum. Profanity in the form of abusive, vulgar or irreverent language is also not acceptable.

Rule #4
- Intolerance for our fellow human beings, of any kind, is inexcusable behavior in today’s world

Rule #5
- Discussions espousing one particular religious belief or political system over another or comparison of one belief or system to another will not be allowed.

Rule #6
- This forum has a Personal Message(PM) function. This is for the express purpose of transmitting personal information such as real names, addresses or other sensitive information. This is not a Private Message system as nothing transmitted electronically is ever completely private. Any report of the Personal Message function, or Social Groups function, being used to, or attempting to, circumvent our rules must be treated the same as any post on the open forum.

Rule #7
- Too often ‘farewell messages’ are bitter and full of disappointment. Farewell messages will be deleted.

Rule #8
– We expect our members to take responsibility for their actions. Attempting to excuse inappropriate behavior by claiming ‘personal preference’ or ‘personal opinion’ is not an excuse.

Rule #9
– This forum is not the place for the discussion of cross-dressing.

Rule #10
– The use of this forum for the seeking or solicitation of funds or donations or seeking professional legal, medical or spiritual advice is inappropriate. This includes any request or solicitation for sponsorship or support where funds would be requested.

Rule #11
- Whenever someone brings up the subject of weapons the discussion has always gone downhill rapidly. Because of this, must insist that there will be no discussion of weapons not traditionally or historically associated with the Kilt or Scottish Regiments.

Rule #12
– The topic of discussion on this forum is the kilt. Discussions veering off the topic or discussions or photos which stress topics other than the kilt will be subject to removal.
