Kilted in the band for Christmas Eve
The good thing about having teens is that they sleep late on Christmas morning, thereby allowing the parental units a bit of relaxation. While I'm waiting for them to get up I thought I'd post a first for me. I wore my Fitzsimmons kilt to church yesterday while playing in the band for our contemporary service (called Elevate). The idea was for the band to wear schmaltzy Christmas sweaters but I thought I'd go for true class with my look. I'm not the drummer in this band as I have been in the past. I'm the bass player now and I'm right out there onstage where everyone can see me. I got a lot of good compliments and when a couple of people tried to make their little jokes like "What do you wear under there?" I just gave them a very serious look and in a matter-of-fact tone said, "Shoes," like it was no big deal. When people realize you're perfectly serious and comfortable with what you're doing they sort of get that embarrassed look and then start in with, "Uh...well...I'm a Forbes...yeah, that's my tartan...the Forbes." When I got the "Are you playing the pipes?" question I just said, "Nope. Bass."
Now...don't ask me what the weird looks from the band are all about in this pic. (And tell me the guy in the hat doesn't remind you of Mickey from Sienfeld!) Oh...and that particular guy came up to me after the service and said his wife wanted him to ask me where she could get him a kilt. I gave him a few suggestions so Rocky, Matt, etc., if Brandon from NC calls you'll know know who he is!

Not sure why this thought struck me...but....most state prison systems issue their inmates jeans.
Looking at the photo just seemed to me there was one free man standing amoung a group of imprisoned men.
Joy!
