A Bear Named Winnie
SO my wife brings home a movie last night for the kids. The setting is the movie centers on the Canadian Veterinary Corps during World War I. Once the movie shifts to the war in Europe there are several shots of kilted Soldiers wearing the black watch tartan with Tam-0-Shanter's. Several full shots to see the entire uniform.
About the movie, as some may already know, this movie is about the history behind Winnie the Pooh. It's a very nice, clean movie. They did a great job dealing with the topic of war without making it gruesome or horrific for the kids and of course there was lots of endearing footage of the bear as well as a few other animals to make the kids laugh. They also did well in keeping the movie appealing to a wide age range. The acting is well done and the script is well written.
Highly recommend this one for those with kids.

NetFlix has it and I added it to my queue.
There was a note on the IMDB that the "Winnie the Pooh" is actually never mentioned in the film to prevent copyright problems with the Walt Diseney Coporartion.
Thanks for the recomendation.
Cheers
Jamie

I'll have to have a look for that one. Reminds me of the story of Smokey Bear.

Yeah, at some point in the movie I started thinking "Is this about the origin of Winnie the Pooh?". There is no hint really until the very end when A man at the Zoo with his son starts forming a short story as he's walking away. Even in the special features section they refer to "a bear who became very famous".

This was the regiment I joined when I started in the military many years ago, and Winnie was part of our regimental history.

Very cool Chris! They show a quick view of a statue like the photo in your link of the Colonel feeding the bear.

This looks like a movie to add to the collection.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I saw this thread and it brought back all kinds of memories from way way back. Lots of interesting information and all. Sounds like a great movie. Thanks.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
