The search function is always a great place to start, and though it can be a little overwhelming sometimes picking through old threads for exactly what you are looking for, you might find some interesting bits of XMTS lore along the way.

Anyway, here's a not too old thread with some suggestions.

    Regards,
    Rex.

for leather work.. I have always been satisfied with Tandy/ Leather Factory... for both my kilt accessories, and my Native American items.. they have good products and they have done me well.. I was able to trade a deer hide, back, after having it about 6 months... so I could buy two matching hides for a set of leggings.. I didn't expect that... prices are good too..

Just this afternoon, I was at the local fabric store and saw that they have leather "scraps" for sale by the pound. I bought a piece of a light grey leather, about 1 1/2 sq. ft., for 99 cents. It's thin, suede on one side and slick on the other. I'm thinking of having a sporran made from it. My wife said, "...like you NEED another sporran...", to which I said, "Of course!"

I suggest Tandy/Leather Factory. They are clear about what they have on offer. They can be a bit expensive, but they send you what they advertise unlike a certain leather dealer in Wyoming.

There are some who recycle leather. Thrift store jackets are a good example.

I use Tandy Leather Factory exclusively. Always found them nice, knowledgeable and very helpful with the stuff I do. I'm still just learning leather work, but all the stuff you see here started out at the Tandy store (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...3&l=d052339072)

PM me, if you like, and I'll hook you up with my local store manager. He's a really good guy, and knows his stuff....and he'll ship wherever you need him too. he'll also tell you if you can find stuff you need cheaper somewhere else...he's not just all about making a sale.

Also, when you need tips and tricks, or just want to check out projects other people are working on, you might consider joining the leatherworker's forum here:

    http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php

TONs of good, helpful stuff on there...I use it a LOT. Leather working is a great hobby to get into...I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

If memory serves, I found this source in a thread here on Xmarks. www.theleatherguy.org . I've dealt with him twice, and been well satisfied each time. Very good prices, and in my experience, very accurate descriptions of the goods. The stock on hand seems to change fairly often, so it's worthwhile checking back often.
