Completed first box pleat!
This my first box pleat and second DIY kilt overall. I made it from some remnants purchased from Fraser & Kirkbright. It's far from perfect but I'm dang proud of it. I definitely getting better with each one. My main problem as you can see in photo number two is wrinkles/dimples in the fell. I suspect I'm not keeping enough tension when I sew (and I think part of that is that I'm a lefty learning how to sew right handed). The sporran was also made by an X Marker, bricekolob.

The irregularities could - possibly - be due to the sewing thread being pulled too tight. The thread has to bend for the fabric to be straight, if the thread is pulled tight, so it is straight, then the fabric has to bend.
It could be that you are just being a bit too enthusiastic in you efforts to sew a neat seam, and relaxing a little might give a better result.
Other than that slight wrinkling, though, the overal effect is very good.
Do you have to sew right handed? As a leftie myself I usually find that whilst I can manage to do most things right handed, fine motor skills are not easily transferable.
When sewing I find that there isn't really anything that can't be done left handed.

Anne, Thanks for the pointers! I'll give those ideas a shot on my next kilt making effort. As far as sewing right handed, at first it felt a little strange but is becoming fairly natural. I write left handed, but most everything else I have done in life (sports etc.), I have done right handed. However, if you have some tips and hints on sewing a kilt left handed I would definitely like to try them.

Looks good for a first try. I remember some of my first attempts at both tailoring and wood-turning. . . . The problem is that the latter are still around to haunt me. (I gave them to relatives!)

Looks good, and I'm glad to see that sporran got a good home.
How much pressing have you done on the fell? Wool is pretty flexible, and you might be able to steam some of that out with the fell area draped over a tailor's ham or similar curved surface.
I have yet to tackle the box pleat addendum myself, one of these days. . .

I echo sydnie on this one. Some vigorous ironing, with a lot of steam might remove a lot of that. Whatever the case, guid on ye!!!
