Just in time for Saint Pat's

Imagine my joy at receiving two kilts in one day!

Mark from the Frugal Corner sent me my prizes from last Summer's Irish tartan design contest and I'm very pleased. The first one he sent (read about it here) was a stock size that didn't fit quite right. These two were made to my measurements and they fit great.

Without further ado, I'll show you the New World Irish tartan pleated up to the orange stripe and to the sett. (If you'd like more ado, check out this other thread)

I like both but, so far, I'm favouring the pleating to the stripe.

Excuse the slightly messy pleats... I was sitting down right before I took this pic

And the used kilt pin I picked up on eBay. I try to go with Hamish's advice to avoid un-necessary wear and tear by having one pin for each kilt and not switching them around.

The kilt pin was located in Australia and I purchased it using eBay. It's vintage, so I have no idea if there are anymore out there exactly like it. I believe that style of pin is called a "penannular" and you could definitely get a something similar on eBay.

Does anyone know of places to get that type of pin new?

    Thumbs up

That's a good looking tartan. It's just been added to my "list."

I think it looks really good pleated to the stripe, but I prefer that style on most tartans.

Pretty sharp outfit all the way around too.

Great looking kilts, and the kilt pin is awesome. That type of circular pins are closely related to old viking pins and can still be seen on Norwegian National costumes (Bunad).

Colin, lucky dog! It looks great. I prefer the orange stripe as opposed to the white. Mine is to the white, and it seems a bit much. Have a Happy St. Paddy's Day!

That "to stripe" pleating is great. Both nice Kilts mind.

Do an eBay search for 'penannular (brooch, pin)' there are quite a few out there.

But not everyone will use the correct term "penannular brooch" in their auction, so you may have to haunt the shawl, kilt, plaid brooch or pin auctions to find similar.

Go here to see some to see some Celtic brooches that are usually more expensive:
