It’s Saint Columba Day!
In my day job, manager of a gated community of active adults the members are accustom to seeing my kilted on Fridays. When I wear a kilt on another day, I usually get the inquiry, “It’s not Friday, so why the kilt?” So, for today my answer will be, “its St. Columba Day!”
My surname Malcolm translates to “follower of St. Columba.” My clan’s lands are in Argyll part of the ancient Dalraida Kingdom.
I’ll be wearing my Newsome box pleat in the St. Columba tartan. So to all my fellow XMarkers, I wish you a Happy St. Columba Day! Any of the local rabble within driving distance of the Fredericksburg Pub meet me there after work as I’ll be buying!

I'm surprised I don't know that... I went to St. Columbkills school!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Columba is my patron, so thanks for the reminder, Ern!
You are correct, the name Malcolm does come from the Gaelic for "devotee of Columba," which is why one of my sons bears that name.
Nice avatar for the occasion, as well. :-)

Ern,
Would you post a link to your thread about your journey retracing the different places Columcille lived and taught?
A very happy day to you!

I too have a devotion to St. Columba and have been to Iona several times. I've read his life in whole and in parts and recommend it to anyone that wants to learn about early celtic monastic traditions. The times I've been to Iona were for retreats and the Holy Island took hold of us and has never let us go.

Hear, hear! Last year my wife and I visited Iona for the first time and it is indeed a "thin place." I felt peace and health restored the minute I set foot off the ferry. I count Brigid and Colmkille as my two patron saints. Wish I lived near Malcom, would love to share a toast in person
