First kilt - Utilikilt sizing/adjustability
Hi all!
After noticing a certain geek-related site had Utilikilts on sale fairly cheap, and remembering I had coupons from previous orders to please my cheap self even more, I have decided to take the plunge and buy somethign I have always wanted. Being new to the kilt world, though, I have a few questions regarding the sizing and adjustability of kilts, the Standard Utilikilt specifically.
Following all the directions as well as possible, I have measured myself out to be a 37" waist and 22.5" length. I'm assuming the .5" difference on the length will be fairly negligible, however, this particular reseller only offers the UKs in even size waistbands. Is it possible to fit in either a 36" or 38"? I am (sadly) at the biggest I have been at in a while, and already starting to shrink back down, so naturally I want to go with the 36" if adjustment will allow. In the same manner, I don't want to go 38" expecting to just go down in size from here.
Any help in this matter would be appreciated (or alternate suggestions, such as quit being a cheapskate and pony up the cash for the 37", or go buy brand x instead, as deemed necessary). Mostly looking for something to replace shorts in the summer, or to wear around town, and maybe inflict some psychological warfare in pond hockey
Thanks!

I'd go with the 36" if your weight is heading that direction.
But there is NO adjustment in the Utilikilt line. It's like a pair of trousers. You can only tighten or loosen the belt to adjust for an imperfect fit. It has no buckles/straps or other means of self-adjustment.
*edit: welcome to the board!

If you are shrinking then I would definitely go with a size lower. I could be mistaken, because I've never had a Utilikilt in my hand before, but I believe the waistbands on them are more like jeans and therefore not adjustable.
If you need the adjustablity, I'd give Freedom Kilts a look. Steve offers a cargo kilt that looks great, in the same type of fabric that UK's are made of (and many types that UK's are not) with quite a few more options (button types, pockets styles, etc.), and I think the pricing is competitive.
Just my $.02

I have found that Wrangler 13MWZ jeans are pretty true to inch size. With that as a standard, I wear a 33 waist. UK recommends buying an inch bigger than your jeans. I wear the 34 UK comfortably, but without a belt can remove it easily by simply pulling it down over my almost-not-there hips. I don't have a 33 UK to compare to, but I'm sure it would fit fine. The Wrangler 13MWZ are pretty easy to find and try on for reference.

I wear a 32 waist in jeans, 34 UK fits me fine. I'd even go up a size. Bigger is always safer, that's were a belt comes in handy..
I like a nice short parade that ends at a bar.

Actually, I wear those exact same jeans but find them to be vanity sized by about an inch. I am wearing 32s right now, even though I measure a 34. The 32s are a bit snug, but the 33s fit me about the same as my UK in 34.

Might be the case, Tobus. I lost a few pounds recently thanks to a big snow storm and other labor. My 33 Wranglers will also pull off without unfastening. My wife tells me pointedly, "You don't need to loose any weight! " I guess I'll have another beer.

Thanks all! I'll see if I can find those jeans, it would be nice to have something I know is a close match fit wise to at least ease my mind (I normally despise buying clothes online). Otherwise, at least they have a generous return policy!
