    DIY tweed jackets

I got the bug this week, I had a kilted week while we had school holidays and wore one every day. I went out to a local thrift store and blew $15 on a pair of tweed jackets and spent two afternoons converting them. I'm pretty happy with the results and will be on the lookout for more. I wasn't game to try epaulettes and altering the pockets yet but that's the plan for the next ones.

Nice work! I keep my eyes open for them too. It's a great way to add to your kit for very reasonable cost.

Tweed is so forgiving, you can take some of the scraps you cut off the bottom and by careful sewing, place them on the to p of the shoulder/arm seam without opening the seam. I did that, and it worked rather well.

Nice job on the sporran cutaway. Sewing the curves is what I found most difficult about converting my jackets. I prefer a plain look, so I skip the epaulettes.

    Nice work!

Nice job! I change the some medal ribbons today with my friend for a jacket in cameron tartan and thinking about the same work, however it looks I don´t do that because of the tartan fabric....I will simply wear it with trousers and matching glenngarry cap...
