    Brand New Sgian Dubh

I thought I would share a picture of my latest creation. It is my custom at this time year to make at least a few presents for family and friends. I find that making gifts really puts me in the Holiday spirit. A friend of mine really admired the antler sgian dubh I had made for myself ( see the thread "Sgian
    Dubh, How To")

    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=20820

She mentioned that she would love one day to have a hand made knife.
This lovely lady has always been especially kind to Sinbad and Xena so I thought it would be fun to make her a yuletide gift. One thing I am not so fond of about sgian dubhs is the way one's hand could accidently slide up to the sharp edge. I decided to make the handle similar to the dirk I made, with a bit of a notch in the handle. ( see the thread "A Bit of Work to Make a Dirk)

    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=21584

Anyway here is the finished result. The handle is oak with a light stain of sedona red. I know the handle isn't traditional looking, but I like the way it feels in my hand. I think after the holidays I will make another like it for myself in zebra wood to match my dirk. But for now, it's back off to the workshop to finish a three foot long grasshopper shaped weather vane!

    What do think?

    Cheers

Great looking Jamie! I want to begin doing some wood working myself. Perhaps after the holidays.

    Rob,

Just remember that Mr. Dremel is your best wood working friend. If you don't have one, you now have a suggestion for Mrs. KiltedCodeWarrior for a Christmas gift that doesn't revolve around kilts

    Cheers
