Sgian Dubh...
Hi guys
I was shopping online for Kilt accessories when I stumbled across some very nice Sgian Dubhs on Ebay
I'm unsure whether or not to purchase one as obviously wearing one would qualify as carrying an offensive weapon (a concealed one to boot! )
How do the rest of you guys deal with wanting to carry a ceremonial knife to properly look the part when wearing the kilt, but at the same time wishing to stay on the right side of the law
P.S I'm not saying I want to carry a Sgian Dubh on the street, just at formal occasions like weddings etc
Cheers!

In Michigan, it's not a concealed weapon and is totally legal if the handle is showing, which it should be anyway. But I can't speak for London, only here.

If you live in a place where it is illegal to carry a Sgian Dubh, a "dummy" is available that looks real.

I don't see the sgian dubh as a "ceremonial" thing - mine are functional tools, and I rarely go anywhere at all without a flashlight, a firestarting tool (matches or a lighter), and a knife (including a sgian dubh or a Gerber multi-lock).
I am fortunate in that I don't live somewhere that's so backward as to deny their citizens the right to cut open cardboard boxes or slice fruit and/or cheese and/or bread with whatever tool they choose to carry.

I make my own "sgian don'ts", knife handled bottle cap openners. They are safe, legal, and to me generally more useful than a knife. Here's some pictures

If you do any wood working they are pretty easy to make.

Nice!
Since I don't drink, and I do a lot of stuff with rope, leather, and wood, the knife is far more useful to me than a bottle opener.

Being you are in London I believe the law allows you to wear your sgian as long as it is a part of your highland dress. As for myself I am never without one, no legal issues here in Colorado. I also have had a real blade made as most you see are not servicable as blade.

That is hickory, specifically it was part of a hammer handle. I haven't made an ebony one because...well...I don't have any ebony
