    How was your valentines day?

Well, it's valentines day, and I was wondering what everyone did for the occasion? Or of course, what interesting things did someone else do for you?

I spent 8 hours last night baking my amazing brownies, and I have already delivered two batches, with three more to go. Since I am currently single, O decided to give them to my single female friends, who tend to hate this time of year.

And against the advice of several people I gave some to a woman who I have had feelings for for a long time, but who has... issues which have made our relationship extremely tense. In what can only be described as a miracle, she accepted them, was very grateful, and even seemed to feel a little sorry about the friction that has existed between us.

So now I'm off to disburse the rest, and I hope the rest of you have had a great v-day.

I too am single and have no one...(That's ok though.) I sent a E mail hug to my friend, Mrs. Marmalade, this morning; she's got the flu and not feeling well. Moosedog sent me a wonderful zebra kilt pin, and it got here today, so that counts. It's Clan Zebra, te he.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Well, I'm actually waiting for my sweetie to arrive home. I've made a salad, dipped strawberries in chocolate and got the sushi ready. Just need my honey.

    Catching up while I wait!

Valentine's Day! Oh, where does one begin?

Valentine's Day! Oh, where does one begin? Let’s see, my wife of seven years cheated on me with another woman this past summer while I was TDY, and to this day still denies it, even though I have irrefutable proof, i.e. e-greeting cards and hair samples from our bed! Hey, I do not have a master’s degree from Boston University in Criminal Justice for nothing. Maybe I should have worn a kilt a long time ago, but back then, I was unaware of my Scottish ancestry. Everything is OK though, we do not have any children and we are amicable towards one another. In fact, she lives upstairs and I in the furnished basement. I retire from the Army in one year seven months and she is not entitled to any of my retirement!

Valentine's Day is just another holiday created by card makers like Hallmark, etc. However today on NPR (National Public Radio) there was an interesting story on the history of the creation of this holiday, and how the name of a prisoner named Valentine was to be executed fell in love with one of the guards daughters.

    The History of Valentine's Day

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

I took my Daughter and my Dad to dinner. I would rather sacrifice two goats and a dog for Lupercalia than try to be more charming than my usual self for a day. I did make a gesture to the ex in the form of a Godiva bar with a little heart ribbon left on her desk.

I had a slight feeling of nausea when I left the office at noon and the girls were gushing over roses, baloons and giant cards. Promise me that if I ever give a giant card with a poem written with candy you'll all put me out of my pathetic misery.

Quiet day for Mrs. Kilt and me. Took her out for supper, got her a card and some incredible cookies, that's about it.

Also alone. I guess women like a man in a kilt, they just don't want to get to know him.

Down the road a bit to Ricardo's. We had the Thursday night special. Steak, chile relleno, taco, a huge shrimp, and a Margarita. My seven year old, when asked how the food was told the waiter that the steak needed more flavor. She told me that my steaks are better. I knew I took her out to dinner for a reason.
