Sweeping pleats on movie theater seats
You know the kind of seats, they are folded upright...then you have to manually unfold them down...and then you have to do the awkward holding the seat with one hand...turn halfway and try and sweap yourpleats with the other hand...while trying to seat down and weigh the seat down so you can use your other hand to complete the sweap on the other side....all the while under the scrutiny of the entire room watching you perform this awkward dance.
It still rocks when i'm finally seated and I can spread my legs and show the knees.
That always seem to quiet the comments.

These are easier than you think. Don't unfold the seat. Put your butt on the edge of the seat while you're standing up, and slide back on the seat as you unfold it. Voilą, pleats swept!

That's how I do it. Especially when my hands are full with popcorn and a drink.

Great idea! Now if only they had folding seats on subways and commuter buses.

Well I tried just that the very first time I went to the movies kilted (sit on the top and let weight pull me and the seat down), but it looked kinda silly. You know, sort of like the way kids do.
I tried last weekend doing it the way I described in the opening post but it still felt uncomfortable.
I guess I'll go with the lesser evil and just let gravity take care of it.
Thanks.

On these types of seats, what I do is stoop down a bit so that the pleats are hanging normally just forward of the seat edge. Then as you sit, scoot back so that the pleats slide over the seat and then sit on them.
But, beware of the gum, candy, spilt soda, etc

Another vote for letting gravity take care of it. It's simple and it's FUN!!!

I was getting up once in an auditorium with those seats and the seat went up and flipped my kilt a mile high, or so it felt. I looked back and there was a teen girl there, but I don't think she really noticed anything or she has seen enough butts that she didn't even smile. haha
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

I put the seat down and do a gum/soda/etc check, then hold the seat down with the babyfinger edge of my hand and scoot/sweep over my hand.
