    It makes you cute and gets humans to give you a nice soft place in the home rather than toss you outside to fend for yourself.

    The original Fold was a barn cat named Susie found in Coupar, Scotland. The fold is caused by a dominant gene, but all Scottish Fold cats do not have this gene. Why that particular gene developed or when, who can say? But, as AA said, they are cute and you gotta love that! I love their little "baseball heads"!

    My Maine Coon just did something similar. Only differences were that he had his feet on my leg, and his paws were sitting on my desk, while he was staring @ the photo... Of course, there was a loud purr going on while he did this...
