Last Saturday, my girlfriend and I went to the National Cathedral in Washington DC for their annual flower mart. As the Cathedral is Episcopalian, I decided to wear my Scottish National tartan USAK casual. As we started walking the Cathedral grounds, a guy came up to me and asked me about the tartan, and he told me he has a USAK (I forget the tartan), and we talked a while about kilts, festivals (Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, Mid Winter in Valley Forge). He was not wearing his kilt. About an hour later, the same guy came up to me, wearing his kilt, and said "since you had a kilt on, I had to go home and put mine on!" We talked for a few more minutes, then continued walking the grounds. The Embassy of Great Britain had a tent set up , and were handing out small Union Jack flags. I walked up to the woman with the flags, and she said in a very English accent "I'm not sure you will want one of these flags wearing a kilt!" and I replied "well I also have a Guinness hat on, so I'm willing to be open minded." While walking the grounds, one woman came up to me and asked if I was wearing underwear, and I replied "under where?" She laughed and walked away. Later we met up with friends at the Capitol Brewing Company for dinner, me in my kilt, walking in the streets of Washington DC.
