    Suggestions for hose...

So, I've just taken delivery of a new kilt in Heritage of Scotland tartan and was curious to suggestions of colours of kilt hose to go with it. I think purple is an easy choice (or so my 4 year old daughter tells me, I'm quite colour blind).

Additionally, if you could suggest where one could procure purple kilt hose, that'd be great too!

You'll hear many opinions on "matching" on this forum, I'm afraid. From my understanding, a Highlander's perception of matching and an American's are two totally different things. As the latter, I think a nice pair of dark blue hose would go nicely. Even the purple with blue flashes would look very smart. But that's just my input, it is what it is!

    Purple hose

Country Naturals is a wonderful vendor in the UK for garters and hose. They have purple House of Cheviot Wool blend "Rannock" hose for 22 GBP plus a reasonable shipping rate. Amanda is wonderful to work with and can order just about anything you may want.

The Scottish Tartan Museum also carries the House of Cheviot "Lewis" hose with a different blend of synthetic to wool, and slightly different tops for $48 US plus shipping. You will find Matt, and the staff there equally great to work with.

    Happy shopping!

I have the same kilt and I've worn cream hose ( as everyone gasps! ) that looked very nice and went with the white stripe in the tartan. I have also worn black, and grey with positive compliments. I've adorned the hose with purple, white, or black flashes as well.

Personally? I would go with tartan red Lewis Rich hose. I like to mix hot and cool colors, and red really makes purple pop! I do that with my Albannach tartan kilt.

I have the same kilt and am awaiting an order with lovat blue hose to see how those look. I wore the kilt the other day to work with a medium purple shirt, Jerry Garcia tie, and a black argyll waistcoat. Got grief from the males, but the females were beside themselves with compliments all day. Great looking kilt by the way.

Thanks for all the help folks. I think I'll be putting in an order for the purple hose from scottishtartans.org. Admittedly I couldn't wait either, so I've got the kilt on today with cream hose and a light purple shirt. The folks here at work (both students and staff) seem to think it looks good from the comments/compliments I've received

Thought I'd toss in a photo from what I was wearing today... Not the hose I aspire to, nor do I feel it's the best sporran for the situation, but until the one I ordered from Wyvern Leatherworks arrived, it's what I"ve got.

The shirt doesn't seem nearly as "shiney" in real life as it did in that photo. As an aside, it's pretty much impossible to take a picture at our house without the wee photo gremlin to my left showing up...

EDIT: Hrm.... it would seem I'm not as successful at posting images as I would have hoped...

What you do is copy the location of the image, the address that ends with .jpg:

and put it in this tag:

Very nice outfit by the way. My one thought is that the vest is not cut for the length of the kilt. It looks a little long to my eyes. But that's all a matter of personal taste.

Thanks Nighthawk, I"ll definitely agree with you on the length of the vest, but again, it's what I had at hand
