    Hand woven garter ties

With all of the threads showing off different garter ties, I thought I would show off mine.

I made this inkle loom using various patterns and ideas from the web. I can use it to make woven strips up to 6 inches in width and about 5 feet long. Here it is all ready to go to make a "dusty blue" garter tie.

Here are the 2.5 sets I've made so far:
    Claret
    Olive
    Dusty Blue

I have found the garter ties to be 100% more comfortable that the elastic flashes and in imho, I think they look better.

Very cool! I've given up on flashes with elastic entirely. Traditional woven garters are much more comfortable.

    Very nice!!

Have you ever looked into card weaving? You can make some awesome patterns that would make some fancy garters. Like the argyle cuffs.

I just spent the last hour or so discovering inkle weaving. I had never heard of it before. There is no end to what I learn from this site.

Oh, that brings back memories of my wife card weaving every night back in the 70's. It is possible to do some very complicated patterns.

I've seen it done, but have never tried it. It would look pretty cool with some castellated top hose.

Here is an ehow page on making one. It is good for giving dimensions, but I did not see any pictures...I am a visual learner.

This page is pretty good. It show what it looks like, so take the dimensions from the above page and apply it to the pics on this page. This one also give instructions.

    Have fun and good luck.
