There is a lady who goes to the Fort Lupton Heritage Days festival every year who insists on finding me and singing that to me. Even though there are at least 15 other kilted men at that festival, she for some reason singles me out... I'm hoping to figure out a way to avoid her this year...

    *Phweet* Time out!

The song is correctly "The Scotsman", written (and copyright) in the mid-1970s by my good friend Mike Cross of North Carolina. Mike is a mad fiddler, a tremendous storyteller and a damn fine performer on 6- and 12-string guitar. He has a website with sample MP3s for those interested. I highly recommend his performances.

I've heard so many bad/ wrong/ or phony versions and attributions for this song...it is not "traditional" nor "anon" nor "translated from the ancient celtic."

On this site we strive hard for accuracy in all things Scottish, from kilts to heraldry to steam engines; please continue the effort by attributing this fine song correctly.

Carry on. Sorry for the interruption

A couple years ago was out to dinner kilted at Paria Outpost and a folk singer there saw me and sang the song from memory! Amazing lady.

    in the opera die fledermaus

there is a party scene where basically the opera stops and various people can be brought in to perform music from other operas. I was directing this opera here in socal several years ago and the artistic director and i were discussing that moment and she said she wanted something different for the scene. As a joke I told her about "the scotsman". She asked me to sing it for her and died laughing and insisted we include it so "The Scotsman" made it's debut in the opera world.
