Kilt Alterations near Ottawa, ON, Canada
Good Monday evening all,
I’m pretty new around here, but have been put into the community by a friend as I desperately look for someone to alter a kilt for me.
Presently I own a Buchanan (Modern) kilt which I purchased when I was somewhat heavier then I am now. That said, somewhat is an understatement. The kilt measures at 49” round and I’ve dropped 9” to date making the kilt unwearable. Yay me! This is great for my health, but a pain in the butt for my clothes.
I’m looking for somewhere to go, who is qualified and would be able to take 9” off the waistline.
Any suggestions (other then having to purchase new 🫤) would be appreciated
Thanks!
Sláinte
Doug

I've been told a big reduction is a mammoth undertaking but you could talk to 'The Kiltmaker,' Margaret Jackson in Kingston. I have her shop's phone # as 613-634-4118 and she will likely be at the Maxville Games this weekend. I used to talk to Ms Jackson's mother, the original owner, and can certify she is from a long line of kiltmakers that go right back to the Royal makers at Balmoral.

Dugario - I was at the Highland Games in Maxville today and picked up the card of a kiltmaker in Ottawa. I asked, and she does do alterations. I will send you a PM

I don’t know if you know what I’m talking about but was it the Asymmetrical or symmetrical version you have?

Thank you all
Thank you all for taking the time to reply.
I was able to touch base with a local kiltmaker here in Ottawa who was attending the GlenGarry Highland Games. I will also reach out to Joan in Kingston to get a comparison/second opinion.
Here's hoping

Since I also live in Ottawa would it be possible to get the name of that kiltmaker?

Margaret Jackson made my new kilt and altered an old one. I would recommend.
