Thanks again to you all especially Jamie for coming up with the idea that has stood the test of time.
Goodness Glen are you suggesting we do it over and see how 5 years under our belt would have changed our views?

I don't think I'd be up for that actually.

One of the greatest benefits the kilt has is that neither the thread nor pictures need to be updated. Maybe a little buckle and strap movement, but that has nothing to do with fashion, just age.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I should hope that while your principles remain the same, your views are continually being updated....

    Cheers to both of you.

I'm going to be getting my first Black Watch kilt this summer and found the 'looks' here to be very helpful; the question is pleating of the BW.
Does to the stripe or sett look better with a medium weight BW? thanks in advance, Maceairsidh

Maceairsidh I would say pleating is your choice. I think most would pleat Black Watch to the sett however if you do a google search that may help with a decision on pleating, also talk to your kilt maker about it. I am also glad you found this thread helpful.

My personal preference for Black Watch would be pleated to sett as I think the dark colors (mine is actually fairly bright for BW tartan) are going to blur into each other. As Glen notes though, it is your choice. I would ask your kilt maker's advice and if you are really keen on having it pleated to stripe see if your kilt maker can do a quick mock up and send you a photo so you get an idea of what it looks like.

    Cheers

    Greetings Gentlemen,

Made the trip up to Burnett's & Struth today to have a look in person & make sure all the measurements were done right the first time.
I just placed my order with Margaret at B&S; 16oz Strome, hand-sewn Black Watch. My grandfather was PM, 2nd Battalion, 173rd Can.Hldrs who folded into the A&S Hldrs after the war, so I believe there is a connection of sorts for that tartan? My wife loves it anyhow... Surprisingly, when I talked to Margaret about the pleating, she had strong feelings for to the (black)stripe & showed me an example of what she meant. OK, we’ll see if it lives up to it’s billing in 8 weeks time! And again, many thanks for the gallery of 'looks' that have inspired me.

    regards,
    Maceairsidh
