My newest addition!
Well, I received my latest kilt purchase yesterday. I bought it on eBay from a seller named emeraldtartans who seems to have a continous selection of kilts. Auction was buy it now for GBP 29.00, and air mail shipping from Northern Ireland to the US was GBP 15 and another GBP 4.50 for insurance. So in total with shipping, I was out about $86. Pretty good price. Here is the auction
Description stated a 16oz PV kilt, and as near as I can tell, it is 16oz. My only reference is my semi-trad from Rocky which is 13oz PV. This is a heavier material, but I don't have any way to confirm the exact weight. It is pleated to the sett, tapered apron, and the pleats are sewn down to the bottom of the fell. 2 buckles, and the bottom edge is hemmed, not selvedge. I am wearing it today and am pretty happy with it, especially given the price and the speed of delivery (1 week!). If anybody has any specific questions, let me know. Here are some pics:

Congratualtions on the new threads, you'll be impressing the co-workers again! By the way, what is the tartan?
Bryan...just curious...

Looks like a good find. It looks much thicker than my PV kilt. It appears well made with the fringed apron and straight pleats. Are the leather straps substantial?
The tartan looks like the Scottish National but I can't see any purple in it on my monitor. Is this correct or is it another tartan?

Bryan, the auction said Scottish National, but based on Cav's question I just quickly went to the Tartan's Authority website and what they show as Scottish National looks nothing like this.
And Cav, there is no purple in this one, just green, black, navy blue, red, and white. Maybe someone with more experience with tartans can answer the tartan question. I would say that the straps are average. The same, as near as I can tell, as what is on my SWK and my USAK.
And the co-workers are impressed, especially my lady co-worker who is of Irish descent. Her favorite kilt so far.

That is the scottish national. After comparing to the tartan on USA Kilts site I realise I was thinking incorrectly.
If you can compare the weight to your stillwater htat will give a good idea of wher this will fall in the spectrum. If it truelly is 16 oz. the the only downside I see is it is short 1 leather strap. They have a better variety than stillwater when it comes to a 16 oz. kilt since they carry the Irish Natioinal, Blackwatch, and Pride of Scotland. For $86 you can't beat that.

Actually, I'm not very fond of the thrid, vestigial strap: it just seems to bulk up things around the waist and has no real justification now that most people don't wear their kilts military style: that is to say, right up under their ribcages.
Bryan...but that's just me-you make up your own minds... :-)

Cav, I would say that this is as at least heavy as my SWK heavyweight, but will check when I go home. I just checked SWK's site and their HW are 13oz. The one I have is the solid black which is acrylic, and this is PV.
As for the leather strap, see Mac's comments regarding the necessity for a strap on a contemporary kilt. I actually removed the lower, right side strap on my first SWK because it really does not serve a purpose on a contemporary kilt.

Thanks for the heads up on the Ebay auction. On their store list is a group of kilt jackets including PCs at very nice prices. Maybe another kilt jacket will be coming to the USA.
The kilt you got looks great!
