    Culture Blending Scottish and Hopi

So here's the famous "Don't Worry Be Hopi" t-shirt with my USA Kilts Casual Scottish National tartan kilt.

I'm still being called "Mike" on the Hopi Reservation as folks mistake me for a kilt wearing teacher there.

When I got home to Page, AZ tonight and stopped for supplies at the supermarket a friendly, but VERY intoxicated Navajo gentleman about my age looked at me and said, "Its not March yet Irish!" Then he laughed and said, "Happy Thanksgiving."

THe fact that there are TWO full time kilties in Page, AZ is incredible. Have you still not met him? If not, that itself may be even MORE incredible.

Nope, just me in Page. Mike is 165 miles southeast in Keams Canyon, AZ on the Hopi Rez where my lady also lives. I've met him briefly in the government housing compound for Bahanas (Hopi for Anglos). He was driving by as we were leaving and he asked about the tartan, good to see a kilt, etc. I didn't realize until he left that he wore kilts too. Thought it was just a routine encounter until my lady told me he was the kilted teacher. Apparently, he doesn't wear kilts full time, just from time to time for special occasions. But from the number of times I've been called Mike on the Hopi rez its obvious that they're paying attention. The population of the Hopi rez is about the same as the population of Page so the word of mouth is similar, even more so since they live in many small villages on the different mesas.

Guarantee, next time I run into Mike gonna tell him about this board and have asked my lady to as well. But he works at the school which is about ten miles from the hospital where she works.

But dang, is there a better indicator of the penetration of kilts as an accepted garment for men than to have two of us kilted on the Hopi?

Sadly, the Hopi only wear their kilts for their religious dances...and most live in poverty so even a Utilikilt would be a big deal for them to afford.

Great shirt, Ron; a perfect match with the hose and goes well with the kilt too.

The Shirt looks great with the kilt Ron, but the smile makes the photo.
