Aloha Shirts and Solid Color Kilts, Blending Cultures

So, before I was addicted to kilts I was addicted to Aloha shirts. Perfect for the hot weather here in the canyonlands.

Was stuck on how to combine the two, didn't wanna go back to pants, when I saw a pic of a guy kilted with his Aloha shirt worn open over a t-shirt. Thank you whoever you were!

Started playing with that look and it seems to fly. No one around here has run away screaming in terror or doubled over in laughter.

Have some pics of some looks I've tried and worn to work...one with an Aloha shirt that was designed to be tucked in....its worn with a UK Survival II without the cargo pockets. Think the others are with UK Mockers and Survival IIs.

You should meet Seamus Kennedy. Caught him in an Aloha shirt and TARTON KILT at Estes Park last Sept. He told me he was from that Hawaiian clan headed up by Don McHo. Told his audiance the same thing and they all broke up laughing. His web site is www.mcnote.com/seamus/

Too true. And on stage in front of anywhere between 20-50 up to 6 times during the day and a few hundred at the Ceilidh. Probably had 5/10/20 thousand go thru the area over the weekend.

There's nothing wrong with wearing Aloha Shirts with Tartan. I do it on a regular basis. If you really want to get noticed wear Tie dyed shirts. :grin:

How about tartan kilt, tie die t-shirt with an Aloha shirt....that'll jolt some optic nerves!

Crack me up.

Back in the olden days of the early 60s my minor in college was Clothing and Textiles. I actually took a college course in Clothing Selection....I don't think that Route 66 ensemble is what they had in mind.

I do still have the textbook. Nary a mention of kilts, even in the men's fashion history section.

The textbook was written by two women professors from UConn and published in 1961. They bash men saying, "Most American men are not fashion conscious; they think the only purpose of clothes is to cover the body and keep it warm or cool. They seem to think it unfitting to think of their appearance, and so they pretend indifference."

I'm guessing those ladies are dead by now...I'll bet they'd be impressed by the chatter on this board over what goes with what...

When I think Aloha shirt and kilt, I think barefeet or sandals, so the white socks were a bit of a shock ... and the yellow shirt, not to fond of that shade of yellow, that's just me.

Looks good. Looks natural, relaxed - some guys don't always look right in Aloha shirts (I'm one of them). It works for you.
If it wasn't the middle of winter, I'd be thinking of my lone Aloha shirt combined with one of my UKs ... at least four months to sandal weather ...
