Kilted Christmas Shopping

Ok, Ok, I know... It is late to be starting, but this was the first chance I had to get away to accomplish it!

So, as I was heading out into the great unknown, I figured what the heck and threw the kilt on. On today's list, a stop at QT for a soft drink, a run to wal-mart to pick up a gift for a friend, a run over to the local car-wash to get the orange monster washed and the oil changed and then to linens and things to get the item my wife has been hinting at for weeks. Now, I had been wearing the kilt out and about for several weeks prior to this, so I was not thinking anything of it. However, a very funny occurance happened at the linens and things store. As I am browsing through the several hundred sheet sets trying to remember the exact set the wife wanted, I feel a little tug on the back of the kilt. Now, I am a rather large guy who is balding, this is the last thing I expected. So a quick turn around (not too quick, mind you, don't want to flash the whole store) and what do I find but a 3-4 year old girl looking at me with big brown eyes! So I kneel down to get to eye level and ask her what she wants.... She says that her mom told her to come over and ask why I was wearing the kilt

This, of course, starts a nice conversation with the little girl and her mother. As the conversation goes on, a crowd of women gather to ask further questions. So after 20 minute or so of casual conversation, I have to break free to finish my shopping.

But what a fun time! BTW, Mr. Newsome, if your reading this, I sent a couple of these folks home with the tartan museum address as a place to learn more about the kilt. Several of the ladies stated they wanted to get their husbands in them!

Sounds like a good time, and who knows maybe some of those ladies will get their husbands into a kilt.

That's our Splash. When I was shopping the other night--kilted--no one asked any really pointed questions, but many smiled, waved, etc.

One little girl had never seen a kilted man before, and after a brief "Howdy" or two, I heard the mother explaining about Scotland.

No telling what I may have inadvertently contributed to her knowledge of geography.

That's neat Splash. You've got to give the mom kudos for encouraging the young lady to ask while she observed and kudos to you for explaining to her at a non-adult height.

There are many I fear that are doing what sports humourest Patrick McManus described best as an M.S.P.* (Modified Stationary Panic) over their Christmas shopping right about now.
