    Edinburgh ("Auld Reekie") Pictures #5

Statue of the Scottish philosopher David Hume in the High St.

An attempt to get the whole of the High Kirk of St Giles into the frame.

There are a host of interesting little closes and wynds leading off the High St, this one is Advocates Close.

Looking down the High St, Geoffrey (Tailor)/21st Century Kilts premises are just to the left before John Knox's House.

John Knox's House. He's not my favourite character in Scottish history but the house is interesting nevertheless.

Looking down the Canongate which forms the bottom part of the Royal Mile. Here it's quieter and less touristy. Some nice shops though if you like fudge, prints and bagpipes! The tower and clock are part of the old Tolbooth which was once a jail but now houses a museum relating the People's History of Edinburgh over the last 200 years. Admission is FREE!

A closer view of the Canongate Tollbooth tower and clock.

Me posing with the statue of poet Robert Fergusson outside the Canongate Kirkyard. I had never heard of him but he was a major inspiration for Robert Burns.

He and I share one thing in common - we both attended St Andrews University!

Here are a couple of URLs if you would like to read up a little on him.

I've just got a thing for gothic architecture it's just awe inspiring. There seems to be an abundence of the Scottish flag around is that common? Thank for taking us there.

Well there were nothing like that number in October. Could be something to do with the current Six Nations Rugby or the City Council has suddenly decided to get more patriotic!
