Our Garrison Commander's name is Boyle, and he traces his ancestry to County Donegal in Ireland as recently as his Grandfather. His wife also has ancestors from Ireland. Last year and this year, they have sponsored a St. Pat's Day party and invited senior American Employees, Soldiers, and German VIP's. Nothing fancy, but Irish Stew, soda bread, and green beer. They also had a kids Irish Dancing class performance and a "Potato Sack Race", with prizes. This year they added a quiz of about 15 questions on Ireland and Irish history. I won Second Place with the prize of a bottle of Irish Whiskey. (Bushmills). I'm not a drinker, so I don't know the quality.

My wife wore a green tartan kilted skirt, and below I'm in my "Heritage of Ireland" kilt. I wore a Black Argyll Jacket and bow tie. Overdressed for the occasion, but got lots of compliments from the ladies anyway. Picture was taken with a timer. My wife was too tired. I've got to get a better dress shirt. Sleeves are too short!

This occurred on the 15th of March, BTW.

Yes, a Happy St. Patrick's Day! I am also a long way from other Irish and parades

Anyway, I'll be wearing my Irish national (a nice contrast to the snow that's coming down thick here) and drinking Guinness, Beamish and Murphy's Irish Red.

Doing the traditional Saturday morning house-cleaning, and Dubliners on the stereo makes it a little less tedious...

Bushmills is my favourite Irish Whiskey - too bad you can't pop it in the post to me

I'll be in my Irish American tartan but no green beer <shudder>. Perhaps a Harp.

From the look of things, I'd assume those aren't government quarters...

In this case you're right, I live in a quiet German village and have a modern house. But we have leases on several hundred new houses built for Soldiers, duplexes and townhomes, that are a far cry from the stairwell appartments you might remember from Germany of the past.

I'm working on it! That would be quite a sight! He's about 6'4" tall.

One of my Irish lines is Doyle...think Boyle/Doyle were the same folks that spelled things different...wish your commander a happy St. Pat's from a very distant cousin in the canyonlands.
