    Cable Knit Kilt Hose

Saw these on Ebay and got out bid so I bought straight from the store to ensure I got a pair.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2637&rd=1&rd=1

I was very happy with the ribbed kilt hose from Hamilton Dry Goods, so I thought I'd try these out.

I received them yesterday, bought them Thursday over the phone. I opted for the 3 pair for $20 deal which get's them down under $7 a pair for nice looking kiilt hose for us guys with clydesdale calves.

These are a lot lighter and thinner than the ribbed, they have a shinney finish on the yarn and are a bit more "silky". The saving grace on them is that they are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Long, you don't have to stretch them out to get enough at the top for a good cuff. Without stretching them at all I still have about 3 or more inches above the knee to roll over. They are a bit loose so I will probably need to wear flashes with these or at least the elastic band since I don't usually wear flashes for casual daily wear.

The Cabel knit detail is actually recessed into the weave rather than on protruding above the thickness of the sock as you see in the handmade hose. But the look is still very nice.

I bought a pair of Navy, and two pair of Tan (Oatmeal). I had expected to dye one of the tan to get a dark green pair but I don't think the yarn will take a dye. No biggie, for $7 you can always use a pair of oatmeal hose.

I'll have a better overall review on Friday, but for now I'm pleased with these hose. For $7 you can't beat them. Guys with big calves should absolutely be looking into Hamilton Dry Goods socks.

Thanks for the posting. I've seen them offered elsewhere but always missed out on the auction. I like my ribbed HDG socks they are cool and fit well. But, I do get some hot spots from rubbing that I don't get w/ my wool socks. When I'm going to be doing any work I make sure to wear my woolies. O'Neille

    Here are the pics

So far they are staying up without flashes and I believe they will be fine.

It turns out, the cuff shown is 3 full roll overs without pulling tight. So I get a meatier cuff than a standard kilt hose around an 18" calf.

I think the cable knit detailing is very nice an subtle.

Big guys, take a look at these. Can't beat them for $8.

Those are very, very nice! When you called, what did you ask for?
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

They refer to them as Cable Knit Kilt Hose

They have a handful of colors right now, Tan(oatmeal), Navy, Red, Charcoal, and maybe 1 or two others.

He sometimes keeps a few odds and ends around as well so it may not hurt to ask if he has any other styles that might be similar, you might get lucky and get a "on-of" item.
