    First time kilted Comments please

This is the first time donning the kilt with accessories. I will be wearing it in public for the first time this week-end at the highland games in Arlington, Texas.

Please tell me what you think, Don't want to look foolish.

I know the apron needs pressing, that will be done later.

I think it looks pretty good, there are those that say that the shirt is a bit of a costume piece, but I think you pull it off well. I was thinking though that for a highland games the white or nearly white hose you are wearing are just a wee bit formal, not a big deal though, if you have a pair of lovat blue they might go better, I find a good way to go is to match my shirt and my hose it just seems to work and serves to pull any outfit together nicely.

It is a fine kilt outfit, with the colors well coordinated. My only concern is the modern driving cap with the Jacobite blue shirt. I happen to like Jacobite shirts but to my eye the modern driving cap doesn't work with one. I think it will look less costume-like without the clashing styles of hat and shirt. So I would either forgo the hat for a more period bonnet (or simple beret) or forgo the Jacobite shirt for a simpler polo shirt.

    Have a great time.

    Cheers

One last thing that is missing...

    ...a kiltpin!

I suspect you will have no trouble finding one to your liking at the Games with your new kilt's madien voyage!

    Cheers

    Jamie

PS: Make sure to have a thick rubberband to stick the pin through on the underside of your kilt apron (a little safety precaution against losing your pin )

The only thought I have is that I tend to wear dark shirts with light kilts, and light shirts with dark kilts. My suggestion would be to match the black/navy blue (can't tell which it is in the pic) stripe with your shirt.

I agree with what others have said, but I would like to add that when wearing it out, make sure you walk proudly and smile. That seems to get tons of respect that every Kilt wearer deserves!

    Looks Great

    Breacan,

As long as you are happy, that is all that matters.

That's a very nice kilt-Breacan. I tend to agree with the comments above, but if this is your outfit, it's perfectly acceptable and you may find you are better-dressed than many at the games. You might consider a pair of lace-up black oxfords in place of the loafers, unless you have a pair of big silver or brass buckles to go on them.

I think you will lose the hat quickly in Dallas and roll up your sleaves but my only thought was pull up your kilt a tad. Other wise you look great.

I agree with Panache, but you must experiment yourself, &, if you are happy with your outfit, thats all that matters
