    Prince Charlie Jacket question

I have four weddings to go to in Oct. and two that are formal and that my wife is a brides maid in so she wants me to have a formal jacket. I have been searching all over and Sport Kilt has on for under $200 dose anybody have one from them or maybe has seen one so they can give me a review. I don't realy want to spen to much on one I know you can get waiter style jackets but if I am going to get one it might as well be the real thing.
If anybody has a place where they got theirs and like it let me know I'll check them out.
    Thanks

Getting a PC by mail, is a hard process. But it comes down to how much use are you going to get. I got my original PC at a very low price (about $150) and ended up wearing it only once, then put it on a hanger for almost a year. Then when I started wearing a PC three or four times a month at Lodge functions, I found it wasn't up to it. I then spent $280 for a much better quality.

If you are going to get a lot of use, average the cost per wearing, and get a more expensive (and usually) higher quality.

But there must be at least four different times per year that you use your new PC.

Better to pay a little more - than a little less.

A number of us have made PC conversions from tail coats. If you have/know someone who can sew it's not difficult.
Here's the write up on mine:

And this is the finished product:

It may be of some help to you to take a look at these two threads:

They show a wide variety of formal and dressy looks on many members of X Marks the Scot. This could perhaps help you narrow down exactly what look you want. It may be that an Argyle with waistcoat would be a more versatile choice of jacket than a Prince Charlie.

    Cheers

Thanks for the close-ups, McMurdo. I am working on my own PC conversion and that will really help.

Have you checked the uniform store on base or some of the surplus shops around base? A mess dress jacket would work for a formal kilt jacket. They are similar to the PC, they just don't have the tails in back and the funny cuffs on the arms.

You may be able to find one cheap around base.
