    Who's your favourite Burns singer?

This came up on some manner on another thread, and I was wondering who you guys think is the group/artist that does the most justice to the works of Rabbie.

My vote is with this guy for A' Man's a Man, though I like Paolo Nutini's version too. But for overall, I must say that I really like Smithfield Fair's album of Burns music, Burns Night Out.

My vote would be for Alex Sutherland or Ed Miller. both Edinburgh natives now living in the US. Alex & Ed both do a number of Burns songs as part of their perfomances, and both are "well versed" in Burns history and tradition. In fact, Ed has a PhD in folklore and has studied Burns' efforts to preserve Scottish folksongs.

But, if you want to see "the man himself", my vote would be Chris Tait also of Edinburgh.

    Yours aye,

    Todd

Jean Redpath, who has probably recorded more of Burns' work than anyone.

    Best regards,

New Years celebrants. When the whole world sings Auld Lang Syne at the stroke of midnight, this would be the ultimate nod to Rabbie.

I would second Ed Miller. I have his collection of Burns songs on my Ipod. I love his versions.
Another good one would be Jim Malcolm

He has a new one CD of some of burns works.

I've been to a couple of Burns Suppers where Ed was playing, one in St. Louis, and one in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. His rendition of A Man's a Man is the best I've ever heard, defiant in its simplicty, as the song's subject is. Sometimes the more "polished" singers leave that out when they sing Burns.

    Regards,

    Todd

I have recently been listening to Eddi Reader doing the songs of Robert Burns, and have quite enjoyed her take on them.

*** on that defiately. I seen her perform a few weeks ago at two separate folk festivals(Canberra and Blue Mountains), the CD has been on very high rotation in our hoose since then, I was lucky enough to get the last copy she had with her. It gained her an MBE so she must have done it right by some.

By luck Folk Festivals and kilt-wearing comlement each other nicely
