Three Candles kilt Pewter Kilt Pin for the Holidays

After I finished the sgian and pin I decided to get something completed for Christmas gifts. I wanted something with an old time (primitive) feel that could be used as a Holiday kilt pin and would symbolize many different things to different beliefs etc... It needed to have some deep meaning to me and be unisex in design. Here is what I came up with.

I wanted texture. So I made the prototype in.... wait for it... leather. I made the candles anthropomorphic for a reason (Christmas and all) yet they are still candles even though there is some look of flowing robes and flames that may be heads.

I then made a quick mold using the leather piece I had just tooled. It went amazingly smooth so I must have been doing something right.

Here's one hot out of the mold

I got a couple filed and polished. Soldered some pins and here they are.

And a close up. The flash kind of ruins the dimensionality of them. I'm going to experiment a little with some coloring of the background and see if I like the results. Maybe post another pic later.

What do you all think? Did I capture the season?

Here is one with artificial aging and no flash. It photographs better but I like the bright finish in person

The finished pieces are 1 7/8" by 1 3/8" and weigh in at .9 oz.

That looks really good, O'Neille. I like the artificially aged version. How do you do that? I have some bright gold-colored metal triskel buttons I'd like to tone down for sporran buttons.

Very secret method....black BBQ and Stove paint. Spray them and wipe them off immediately.

That's funny, I'll have to remember that. In ceramics, sometimes we use shoe polish to do that or to bring out the lines and textures.

As the old school marm would say:
