Semi/Formal Xkilt?
I was planning on attending a Burns night in Cincy on the 25th. Got to thinking about what to wear when I remembered I just got a new black jacket at the goodwill I was gonna convert into a kilt jacket.
That got me to thinking about the black XKilt I made out of 65/35 poly cotton. Tried the two on together and it looked good. Even with the jacket as is.
I then proceeded to experiment by adding a 1/4" pleat tux shirt and bowtie with studs and links, and the Vest from uniformal and my battle axe pin from SK. Damn if I didn't look like a Scottish James bond (I'm no Sean of course but you get the image) Just need to fashion up some solid black flashes with the leftover fabric.
I'll post pics Saterday night hopefully. Tell me what you guys and gals think.
BTW, I still need a different sporran rather than go with my nylon nightstalker.
(Come to think of it this will be a great economical outfit.
Xkilt + flashes= homemade, fabric costs = >$12
Tux shirt=$10.95 uniformalwearhouse.com
Studs + links=$2.95uniformalwearhouse.com
Vest=$29.95 uniformalwearhouse.com
tie=$1.95 uniformalwearhouse.com
Hose=$12.00 SWK
Shoes= (I had) up to you
Kilt pin= $9.00 SK
Jacket= $2.50 Goodwill
TOTAL= $81.30 + still need a sporran)

Not economical for everyone...
I ain't a tiny woman, so I don't have a little black dress on hand. So if y'all vote formal, I'm gonna have to go shopping, and PDQ. Now accepting donations...
*** Premature meltdown... I've been in budgetary constraints lately, because I'm hoping to go to Ireland again this fall, but I managed to find a versatile dress for a reasonable price. Pictures forthcoming. ***

Reason: I had some 'splainin' to do.

This is being held at Nicholson's (http://www.tavernrestaurantgroup.com/nicholsons.html) in Cincinnati, FYI.

Here is one of the bar before the crowds overtake it:
There is more dining in the back, including a cozy room with a fireplace.
Your outfit looks good in the prototype. I'm sure there will be people in all manner of dress there. Do mind Jack, the friendly doorman, though. He is not a fan of contemporary kilts (though he did once express a slight interest in Steve's Freedom Kilts), so I'd avoid striking up much of a conversation with him if you don't want a scowl to go with your evening's entertainment.
Regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

I'll bat my eyes at him and soothe the savage beast, should the need arise.
As far as the fireplace seats, I am down like four flat tires!

I have a poly/cotton black X-kilt I made for knockaround wear and it turns out to be the best thing for concert blacks...nothing shiny to distract and quite comfortable for singing...and it looks surprisingly good dressed up. Looking forward to seeing your version...
