I Am Looking for a Proper Commando Sweater
Back to the Army Navy Surplus I went not too long ago and bought myself an army commando sweater. I think these close-fitting sweaters with the shoulder and elbow patches look great with the kilt. BUT, it has a crew neck and not a V-neck. I still intend to keep the crew neck, but I'd like to get a V-neck version so that I can wear a collared shirt and tie under it. Well, I'm not having any luck finding one anywhere. The only V-neck commando sweater I can find on the 'net are police sweaters, but I don't want the badge patch. Can anyone help?

This place has some:

Do a search for sweater and it will show some v-neck ones of different colors.

I did a google for "wooly pully +v-neck" and came up with hundreds of places.
Try that.

Actually, the military V necks I have seen all have the tab. Incidently, in the Army that spot is where you put your name tag, and I believe the unit insignia (It's been a while, but I believe that's what I put there ).
Good luck on your search.

Good luck on your search.
Our commando sweaters in the NPS have two; one for our name plate, and one for our badge.

Commando Sweaters with badge patches
I have a US Army Black sweater. It was issue a few years ago when I was on active duty. It has the shoulder epaulets and elbow patches. It also had a sewn on badge patch. I wanted it to look less military so I carefully clipped the stitches holding the badge patch. It came off easily in about 5 minutes.
It has the vee neck too.

Do you know anyone with a knitting machine?
As long as they can find the right yarn you can make just about anything. A pattern for the fabric patches can be taken off the one you have, as well as a rough guide for sizing and shaping.
Though I don't think that the original military design comes in a vee neck version, I have only seen civillian ones.
I have one I bought that the moths have made merry with, so I must salvage the patches from it and knit new bits for them. In something mothproofed.

I found this one that might work for you. From the photo it does not appear to have the badge tab on the chest.
