US Maker of Trews
This isn't really a kilt accessory, but does anyone know of any makers of traditional trews in the US. I would one day like to get a pair of trews made in the Dove tartan, so I would have to have the cloth specially woven. What I was thinking was that I could get a bunch of cloth and then send it to different craftsmen to get different garments made.

I've never heard of trews being made in the US. I don't think there is a big enough market for them.

You might try some of the US Civil War reenactor suppliers.

Now did you mean the modern military based pant, or the real "traditional" trews, which were almost skin tight, cut on the bias, and included foot coverings? If you refer to the former, than most on-line retailers offer them in most tartans. As for "real" trews, I have never seen them other than pictures in history books, and referances made to them.

Linda Clifford in Maine advertizes trews on her web page. http://www.lindaclifford.com/Trousers.html Keep in mind that a good pair of tartan trews will set you back about the price of a casual kilt.

I would think that any competent tailor could sew up a pair for you.

I have seen a number of Scottish reenactors wearing "real" trews, and as matter of fact there is (was?) a company in the UK called WAR WEAR that had them posted on their website.

This is the War Wear version:

Thanks for posting the pictures, they were great to see.
