    New Kilt - New Sporran!

Yay, me! It feels like Christmas in the Newsome household. I just completed a new kilt for myself Saturday morning, and I got to showcase it when I travelled down to Atlanta to give a talk to the St. Andrews Society there (which is a wonderful group, by the way).

Here is a photo of myself and fellow X Marker, Cawdorian.

My new kilt is the MacQuarrie tartan, as recorded in the Cockburn collection, c. 1815. I had it woven in traditional early nineteenth century colors (ala Wilson's of Bannockburn). It is, of course, a four yard box pleated kilt. I'm really in love with these colors! There is a long story as to why I wanted this kilt, which I'll probably write up as a blog post in the near future (be on the lookout).

But while I was down there at the meeting of the St. Andrews Society, I met up with Lamar Adron Britt, the master craftsman behind the Ferguson Britt line of sporrans. I picked up a few sporrans he had ready for me (including a black leather Inversnaid model for a certain X Marker, as well as some fur Glengyles that will be offered at a sale price -- yes, more details on that will be posted later). But, most exciting for me, he had finished the bobcat sporran I had been dreaming about for some time.

I selected an Inverarnan style for this sporran, as I like capacity and the extra wide opening at the top. The bobcat pelt for this sporran is amazingly beautiful in its color and pattern. I really was very pleased with it.

So today, I wore it all day at the museum. I liked it well enough when I picked it up, but after wearing it all day, I'm just in love! Here's the pics:

    Full body.

Great new kilt, great new sporran.... I must be doing something right!

WOW! That sporran is awesome, Matt. And the new kilt is excellent (as they all are). Okay, my jones for that Inversnaid has gone nuclear. I can't wait.

I love when you post pictures of YOUR new wears. It's always a great treat. I really like the MacQuarrie tartan in the new... err... "old" colors Very very nice. And the pelt on that sporran almost seems to glow! And Matt, I'm DYING to know what this "sale" on the fur Glengyles is. Those are the ones I've been slobbering over. Please, DO tell!

Oh, and as for your blog: I have this little application called "Viigo" on my Blackberry. It's basically an RSS reader. I have your blog updates downloaded automatically with alert and everything.
