It does not have to be worn with anything else. You can wear trainers/shoes/t-shits/shirts/jumpers/jackets/plimsoles etc with them. That's the beauty of them. Kilted Scotsman.
A sporran isn't a necessity if you have a kilt with pockets.

Personally, I don’t care for wearing a sporran. I don’t think it’s very comfortable. However, I do like the look of a Kilt with a sporran. And, ya gotta have something to put your stuff in.
