    Argyle hose from J Higgins?

    I'm considering ordering these: http://www.jhiggins.net/catalog/hose_argyle.html

Has anyone had any experience with the company?

I've never ordered the Argyll hose, but everything else I have gotten from JHiggins is excellent.

I have ordered many things from them, including colored hose, and I give them top marks for quality and service.

I orderd a kilt and jacket from them I was very happy with it all. The service in very good. The jacket and vest were at my door in just a few days. The kilt fits like a glove, and really built to last.

    J. Higgins' diced hosiery are reasonably priced. They are acrylic though, so they aren't nearly as durable as woolen hose.

If you wear them no more than a handful of times annually, you should get your money's worth. Based on that I'd recommend them.

If you have muscular or large, calves, contact them prior to ordering. You may need the next size up to accommodate.

    Slainte yall,
    steve

I used to own a pair of the acrylic tartan hose from Higgins, and I wouldn't buy another pair. Even after following the "care and feeding" instructions, they still began to unravel and grow "beards" -- a friend of mine has had the exact same experience.

The Tartan Thistle in Washington State offers hand-knit wool tartan & diced hose for around $120, and they are worth every penny.

I don't know what the quality is, but the price listed is about 1/4 what custom-knit argyle host typically cost (the ones that dancers wear). If you order these, can you let us know what they're like?

They don't offer those anymore. Here's the revised page what they currently offer:

Yeah, I found that same web page a couple months ago and immediately started salivating like one of Pavlov's dogs, only to discover that when I contacted them they no longer offer them. The web page is a ghost from a prior catalogue that just seems to keep haunting the net.

Bet price I have discovered for customs was at Tartanweb for $120, although there is another site I am having trouble locating my bookmark for that had some specific tartan hose in specific sizes for around $100US. If I find it I will post it.
